Sounds of my Writings: The Fear of the Lord

The fear of the Lord, where is it?

The eternal judge who knows the motives of the soul and hearts of men. The one who sits as King over all, his throne established at the plumb line of eternity and earth, sovereignly exposing all that is hidden. Who will stand before him, or sit at his side?

Don’t you know the eternal, the one whose voice is deeper than the sounds of a thousand thunders? You run and hide your face from rain and lightning, but how about from him who is great and stands brilliantly as a burning fire. Is there anyone who would raise his/her voice before him, for he silences the tongues of men and establishes his righteous ones as stars in the midst of a dark sky. How great is our God! For he will judge the living and the dead with just scales.

1 Peter 4:1-6

1Therefore, since Christ suffered in his body, arm yourselves also with the same attitude, because whoever suffers in the body is done with sin. 2As a result, they do not live the rest of their earthly lives for evil human desires, but rather for the will of God. 3For you have spent enough time in the past doing what pagans choose to do living in debauchery, lust, drunkenness, orgies, carousing and detestable idolatry.

4They are surprised that you do not join them in their reckless, wild living, and they heap abuse on you. 5But they will have to give account to him who is ready to judge the living and the dead. 6For this is the reason the gospel was preached even to those who are now dead, so that they might be judged according to human standards in regard to the body but live according to God in regard to the spirit.
